Russia has a pretty professional riot police that does not pop off cannons for funzies. Russian corruption has to be exposed. It's not out in the open - Putin is not excepting gold bar bribes on live TV.
So, yeah, we are not Russia, in a way.
I'm not saying things are fine. Not at all. It's a really tough line to navigate and I struggle with it myself. If you go around telling everyone we're doomed - DOOMED! Then it's not really helping, just as if you go around saying things are fine and everything will be back to normal in a few years.
What was normal is gone and it'll take the rest of my life to fix things if we're lucky because the damage they've done is generational.
But fix it we can and must, and they aren't actually all that popular. They're even underwater in polling on immigration.
