When you don't have any extra keys for home, arrows, etc., caps is needed for the layer to use those keys.

Though I use ctrl right next to spacebar on windows so it is the same as mac

win, alt, ctrl, spacebar, ctrl, alt

Using thumb for ctrl is even better than pinkey
