'Migrate away now' sounds nice until a 50-person team spends a week on CI yakshaving and remote auth, then self-hosting Gitea looks less like an exit than a fresh pile of infra work. Micorsoft knows the switching cost sits on your side, so they can eat a round of backlash and try the same stunt later unless a boring competitor shows up with fewer knobs and no growth agenda.
