But cars from foreign manufacturers "made" in Mexico or Canada can be exported to the U.S. per NAFTA, like everyone's doing now. The Chinese are currently building loads of EV car factories in Mexico in the hope they can export them North when this Administration ends.

There's no reason to assume that China is looking North, in fact, they appear to be looking South (America) much more than North - there's mutual benefit from that trade and either side would be fools to miss it.

You can't assemble a bunch of imported parts and say it's a NAFTA car. 75% of the content of the vehicle has to come from North America. There are other limits on the minimum labour cost and steel/aluminum content.

So no, they are secretly planning to relabel a Chinese car. Nothing works like that.
