It is not really indirect, USA supports that genocide openly, polically and with arms.
But even more importantly, the care is result of years and years of leftist activism. Nothing to do with china, judt that awarness dont happen overnight.

thinking that those two things need the same level of attention is for sure a false equivalence for reasons stated elsewhere. glad we got to the bottom of that one. further, we also saw that Americans do care, which is why we had elected officials there last month and can read about it through AP.
