alt Hacker NewsHaving used Framework very extensively at one time, I would say that is one of the best thing about Excel.
OTOH, LAMBDA and LET enable moving the core of some calculations into user defined functions in the Name catalog. And Tables fix a lot of the cell reference issues though they need a lot of improvement to handle array spills.

I sometimes wonder about an excel-like interface where the tables and columns can be given names, reducing errors from incomplete ranges. It would be like reinventing a database though.
