If you want search (which isn’t an unreasonable desire) then Google isn’t the place for you any more.

Yup. I've been using Kagi for a couple years now and haven't looked back. If I'm on someone else's computer where I don't have my Kagi login, DuckDuckGo is usually sufficient.
Paying for search isn't for everyone, of course, but I like being the customer and not the product, and I think the quality of the experience flows from that.
It's weird to read this comment not long after having experienced Google giving zero results for a search, and then finding what I wanted on Bing.

so there you go. I still use Google even if the AI is a bit weird at times - you can always ignore it.
Also - capitalism doesn't like "works just fine". We call that stagnation. For better or worse they're going to continue to try to "innovate" new ways of squeezing some KPIs out of their products

"use a different tool" is a pointless comment if the OP isn't asking for alternatives.
It's equivalent to the "if you don't like it here, leave" line used when someone complains about an issue in society.
