alt Hacker Newsone of my projects on the backlog is to figure out how to combine the dvd copies and the bluray copies of the x-files so that I can have 4:3 episode in hd. especially in the first couple of seasons they crop a lot of stuff to fit it into widescreen, I'm waiting until AI gets good enough that I can using the dvd quality original fill in and upscale the cropped part of the hd episodes.
Seasons 1-5 of Reno 911 were 4:3. If you stream them nowadays they've had an awful pan and scan applied that actually removes a ton of detail, results in heads being cut off, etc. All so we don't get black bars on the sides of the screen. It's so bad and makes me question whether the people that did the conversion even watched their output.
