It used to be if you throw a party and invite a bunch of people, the ones that say they'll come will probably come. Now, you invite a bunch of people, you get mostly a bunch of maybe and half don't show up.

It makes it both harder to plan and have the social risk of a dud of a party. Worst thing you want as a host is people not having a good time.
