Apple is pretty late to the smart display market. We have had these devices around for almost a decade now.

The existing products have been through multiple generations and have differentiated into different sizes, features, and formats.

I think this is pretty classic Apple – they take their time jumping into a new product segment and only do it once they feel their product would work and be received well. The iPhone Duo being released this year after ~10 years of foldable Android phones is a similar story
