> In May 2026, Anthropic averaged around 2,500 code changes merged per day; as of September, we merged over 30,000 per day.

Here are the public model releases from Anthropic this year:

5th Feb 2026: Claude Opus 4.6

17th Feb 2026: Claude Sonnet 4.6

7th Apr 2026: Claude Mythos Preview

16th Apr 2026: Claude Opus 4.7

28th May 2026: Claude Opus 4.8

9th Jun 2026: Claude Fable 5

9th Jun 2026: Claude Mythos 5

30th Jun 2026: Claude Sonnet 5

24th Jul 2026: Claude Opus 5

1st Sep 2026: Claude Fable 5.1

1st Sep 2026: Claude Mythos 5.1

22nd Sep 2026: Claude Opus 5.5

28th Sep 2026: Claude Sonnet 5.5

7th Oct 2026: Claude Haiku 5.5

I would guess that any public model has been available internally for at least a month before that date, maybe longer.

My best guess is that the uptick in code changes corresponds to the availability of Mythos/Fable-class models inside of Anthropic.

I had Claude recreate their chart from that article with these releases overlayed onto it: https://static.simonwillison.net/static/2026/anthropic-merge...

Yeah. OpenAI basically said the same thing with regards to having Astra available to their team internally over the summer.
