This stems from the differences in median income of people coming up with these tools and the target audience/median consumer, i.e. these people are out of touch
I remember meetings with our M$ management when I was at Wunderlist (after the acquisition) singing the praises of Cortana and "smart inboxes".
The disconnect was almost comical. All the engineers and other regular employees had "eeew, get it away from me" on their faces, and the sentiment was "how much do I have to pay to not get this?"
The managers, on the other hand...I don't know how to describe it. What they exuded was something along the lines of a religious or probably more accurately cultish experience. They had been on the mountain, they had seen the light, the future had spoken to them, and they were preaching the gospel.
And it didn't seem like they were faking it, either.
