I'm getting a ton done with Sonnet 5.5 basic Claude subscription.. It seems a lot people are overpaying on their subscription. Sonnet is what anthropic recommends for most things. I also added a cursor subscription before they raise prices to $16 a month on annual plan for the year. I do hours a day on Claude on medium effort and I have rarely hit any limits. I use opus 5.5 as an advisor. I am doing websites, and automation between different systems. Works great.
I typically use Sonnet on a basic Claude subscription for my hobby / side projects, and Opus on an all-you-can-eat subscription from work. I'm not interested in minmaxxing the model of the week, these are good enough for me.
People, (me included) absolutely are using more powerful models than they need to. The amount of work that Luna can successfully and cheaply deliver is ridiculous.
What I like most about Sonnet is that it's fast. I prefer to work on one thing at a time, and Opus/Fable just take too damn long. I don't want to multi-task several agents, spreading my attention thin.
Sonnet with harness (Claude Code), a good project structure and a decent prompt works for me 99% of the time. For especially gnarly bugs I use Opus.
